(Apologies for the delay – it took a little extra time to data enter all the new members from the No Kings protest on Saturday!)

Dear Indivisible Kensington,

WOW! No Kings 3 was another magnificent show of our strength, resilience, creativity and humanity. An estimated 8-9 million people worldwide came out to say No to Trump and his corrupt, incompetent and cruel gang, No to war and No to authoritarianism. The human banner at Ocean Beach spelled out the message of the day, “Trump Must Go Now!, No Ice, No Wars, No Lies, No Kings”. And in Kensington, around 550 friends and neighbors gathered to express this same message (see photo attached). Although the press is full of stories of the demonstration in San Francisco not being as large as last time (there were still about 65,000 people out in the streets), and people questioning the usefulness of these large demonstrations, we should never forget that 1) big demonstrations always bring new people into action; 2) our numbers prove the narrative that we are the many; 3) it feels good to be in community with each other; and 4) demonstrations are only one tool in our toolbox. Organizing and resistance continue in other ways, both small and large, and it all matters in the long run. Don’t forget that May Day Strong – No Work, No School, No Shopping is right around the corner. Stay tuned.

Other Bright News: My personal favorite win in these past two weeks was the victory of Democrat Emily Gregory, the politically unknown, 40 year old owner of a women’s fitness center, over the Trump-endorsed, Republican candidate in the race for Florida’s District 87 House seat. What’s so sweet about this victory is that Mar-a-Lago is in District 87 and the Republican who held the seat in 2024 won it by 19 percentage points! The times, indeed, may be changing.

Postcards to GA/Osoff

We have 300 names/addresses for unregistered, but likely Democrats, in Georgia. The script is in support of Senator John Ossoff, who is running for re-election and encourages people to register to vote.  

Since some of you have suggested that we bring back in-person postcard parties, which are more fun than writing all alone while watching TV, we’re going to try a hybrid approach this time. For those who would like to participate, please add your name to the sign-up sheet and also include your email address (even though you know we have it), how many postcards you want, in batches of 25, whether you need stamps, and if you would like to pick up a packet or attend in-person. As always, you will be able to pick up the packet with addresses, postcards, instructions with script, and stamps if you need them, from Barbara’s house, 270 Purdue. You will receive an email when the packet is ready for you. The deadline for mailing the postcards is within 2 weeks of receipt and absolutely no later than April 28. The in-person party will also be at Barbara’s on Thursday, April 9, 6:30-8:00. Hope to see you then.

May Day Strong Art Library – Calling all graphic artists

In preparation for May Day Strong – No Work, No School, No Shopping, visual artists are invited to submit graphic artwork that promotes a vision of a future without billionaires, oligarchs and fascists and in which all the needs of the community are met. The goal of the art library is to provide images for download, available to all, to use in organizing May Day Strong.  The site for submitting images launches on Sunday, April 5 at 11:59 pm and will close on Friday, April 24, 11:59 pm.
